Abhi Desai

Abhi Desai is an investor at Desai Ventures, his family’s investment office, where he focuses on pre-seed and seed climate tech startups. Desai Ventures has invested for more than a decade in early-stage companies and funds across sectors including fintech, edtech, and logistics. Since joining the office in 2023, Abhi has helped direct part of its venture activity toward climate solutions, drawing on his background in energy, engineering, and finance.

Before investing, Abhi studied engineering, worked in renewables development across solar, battery storage, and EV charging, completed a master’s degree in climate finance, and worked in strategy consulting for banks and financial institutions. On The Grove, the climate-tech interview podcast from Earth Onward hosted by Blake Newcomer, Abhi discussed how that path shaped his view of capital as a tool for climate impact.

He spoke about why venture capital can matter for technologies that are not yet commercially viable at scale, especially in areas beyond power and transport. He pointed to industrial processes such as steel and cement, thermal comfort, air conditioning, and gas boilers as parts of the economy where major decarbonization work remains.
