Vincent Gori

Vincent Gori is president of Green Recycling Solutions International, a tire recycling company working to commercialize a process that uses extreme cold to make end-of-life tires brittle, then breaks them into smaller pieces for material recovery. On The Grove, he joined Temple University mechanical engineering chair Dr. Kurosh Darvish and PhD researcher Mehrdad Swizi to explain how GRSI’s lab work at Temple has advanced a pre-commercial technology aimed at one of the waste streams that keeps growing as long as cars and trucks are on the road.

Gori’s path into climate tech was direct but unconventional. He told Blake Newcomer that he had no background in tire manufacturing or mechanical engineering. His interest came from seeing the scale of the tire problem through friends in the scrap metal and auto dismantling business, and from recognizing that a better recycling method could have lasting value. He also spoke openly about his arrest in 2000, his 10 years in federal prison, and his decision during that time to change the people and opportunities he pursued after release.

After returning home, Gori met his wife, Barbara, whose commercial lending background connected him to an earlier tire recycling technology. He helped secure a worldwide license, worked through lessons from a New York state program and a SUNY Cobleskill partnership, then brought the effort to Philadelphia, where GRSI built a Temple University tech transfer collaboration.
